Frequently asked questions

Who can have horse riding lessons at Ferring Country Centre?

Anyone over the age of four, with no upper age limit. As long as you’re fit and healthy, we welcome you to join our riding lessons. To be considered for lessons, you need to create an account through our online booking system.

No, you don’t need any prior riding experience. Our skilled instructors can teach you from the very basics, helping you to build confidence and skill at your own pace.
Yes, for the safety of our horses, the weight limit for riders is 14 stone (89kg). this weight includes the riding hat, etc.
Horse riding, like any physical activity, carries some risk. While our horses are well-trained, they can react unexpectedly in certain situations. However, our instructors are highly experienced in ensuring a safe riding environment and will guide you through good safety protocols.
An approved, properly fitted riding hat must be worn at all times while riding. The hat should be less than five years old and comply with current BHS standards. We offer hat hire for £1, which can be added to your booking. Riders should wear gloves, long trousers, and footwear with a small heel, such as riding boots or wellingtons. Shorts and skirts are not permitted, and as riding is an all-weather activity, we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather. As you get more experienced, you may wish to purchase your own hat, as well as jodhpurs and boots specifically designed for horse riding.
Body protectors offer protection should you fall and, while not required for flat work, we do recommend wearing a body protector. If you progress to jumping, wearing a body protector will be mandatory for those under 18 years when hacking-out.

Yes, we are licensed by the local council. We are also inspected and approved annually by the British Horse Society (BHS), and as such, we are listed on the BHS website as an approved riding school. This ensures that we maintain the highest standards of welfare and safety for our horses and riders.

Riding is an all-weather sport, and lessons will proceed in most conditions. However, in cases of extreme weather, we may postpone the lesson for safety reasons. In such instances, we will either run a stable management session or reschedule your lesson.

We operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel please do this via the online booking system and with at least 48 hours’ notice, the credit will be returned to your online account for future use.

We’re open to the general public daily:
