We are delighted to announce a new partnership between Ferring Country Centre and Wadas Animal Rescue Charity to bring our community ‘The Animal Care Series’.
This new series of talks and workshops is designed to help people make informed, compassionate decisions about pet ownership. Together with the team from Wadars, we will be sharing expert advice, practical guidance, and answering common questions about caring for animals responsibly.
Episode 1: Rabbits & Guinea Pigs
Our first talk in the series will focus on rabbit and guinea pig ownership, helping families and individuals understand what it truly takes to care for these popular small pets.
This session is suitable for adults and children of all ages, and will include some interactive activities for younger visitors, including:
- Myth-busting
- Animal themed colouring pages
- And more!
What Will the Talk Cover?
This session will provide a practical guide to rabbit and guinea pig welfare, helping both current and prospective owners understand how to give these animals the best possible care.
During the talk we will cover:
Appropriate housing – what they need in terms of space, enclosure types and enrichment
Feeding – the correct diet, hay requirements, fresh foods and common feeding mistakes
Health care – recognising health issues, preventative care and when to seek veterinary help
Behaviour and social needs – understanding natural behaviours and why companionship is essential
Friendly interactions – how to safely approach, handle and interact with rabbits and guinea pigs
After the talk, Wadars’ Animal Welfare Manager will be available to answer any question, whether you are seeking advice about your current pet or looking for guidance before adopting a new rabbit or guinea pig.
Our goal is to ensure that anyone thinking about getting a small pet has the knowledge needed to provide them with a happy, healthy life.
